This community will be the first stand alone memory care residence available to seniors living with dementia on Vancouver Island. Residents will benefit from Nanaimo Memory Care’s neighbourhood design concept and secure home-like environment. Alzheimer’s trained licensed professional staff on site 24 hours a day conduct meaningful engagements personalized to each residents preferences. Our residents will enjoy elegantly furnished private and semi private suites with a personal bathroom.

Job Description

Position Summary:

Provides direct nursing care to residents and delegates and supervises the care provided by Quality of Life Specialists. Administers medications, performs treatments and procedures, obtains specimens as needed, and completes documentation as required.

Essential Job Functions:

Document resident status per policy.

Provide daily supervision to assigned staff and directly provide nursing care to residents as assigned.

Participate in the admission of new residents.

Assist residents with the Activities of Daily Living (ADL), family/social activities and actively promote independent life-style of residents.

Respond to resident call system promptly and courteously.

Responsible for identification of resident medical and behavioral changes and the development and monitoring of care plans and re-assessment of each resident.

Provide daily report to the Director of Health Services concerning facility conditions, personnel performance, recent conditions, and the need for nursing supplies.

Provide nursing care according to physician’s orders and in conformance with recognized nursing practice, establish standards, and administrative policies.

Ensure preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services to residents and assists in the coordination of nursing care with care rendered by other disciplines.

Make rounds with physicians, assist in examinations and/or treatment of resident, and carries out physician orders.

Assess resident and notify attending physician and responsible party in the event of a change in the resident’s condition.

Accurately administer prescribed medications, supervise the continuity of nursing care, respond to changes in medical condition, medications or other circumstances requiring special care needs and perform first aid as required.

Provide daily supervision and leadership to assigned staff and other designated personnel in meeting the resident’s needs. Demonstrate good decision making skills. Provide written evaluation and oral counseling of assigned staff.

Assess and monitor complex resident health status and determine the appropriate nursing intervention. Develop and monitor the ongoing plan of care with resident and initiate corrective action as necessary.

Orient residents and staff to emergency procedures and respond to all emergency situations.

Complete and sign incident reports and provide follow-up as required.

Assure that all resident records are accurate, complete and all mandatory forms are on file. Through familiarity and application of facility policies and procedures, assure that nursing care is practiced in full accordance with regulatory requirements, facility quality standards, and resident rights.

Monitor resident environment to ensure all safety and sanitary regulations and quality standards are met or exceeded. May assist with the development and presentation of in-service programs.

Qualifications

Education Required (Preferred):

Current Arizona License
Minimum Associate Degree in Nursing.

Years of Experience:

One Year of experience working as a CAN/PCA/RA, preferred
One year of experience working with Alzheimer’s residents, preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to learn and work with the specific needs of those residents suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and/or other related dementias.
Willingness to be available for any/all emergencies regarding the facility
A basic proficiency in the English language enabling understanding and communication with our Community’s residents is an essential skill
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products

Resident Care/Assessment: Must be intact including color, depth perception and field of vision.
