The McMaster Children’s Hospital Hemodialysis unit, part of HHS, supported by Pediatric Nephrology service, provides care for children with end stage renal disease and other renal conditions. Hemodialysis care is provided to outpatients within the Hemodialysis unit or coordinated with inpatients including within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The service involves an interdisciplinary team working within a family-centered care environment.
The primary focus of this Registered Nurse (RN) role is to provide hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis treatments, and nursing care to pediatric hemodialysis and nephrology patients in a variety of settings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the RN will be involved in both direct and indirect care of children who require hemodialysis. This will include assessment and implementation of patient care plans in the inpatient and outpatient settings. As a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, the RN uses clinical expertise and knowledge of children and families, disease processes and related issues to plan patient care and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care.
