For full time and permanent positions, recruitment bonuses include: $5,000 on start date, $5,000 at 18 months of service and $10,000 at 30 months of service. Additional premiums include a $9,000 Annual Frontline Allowance and a $375 Monthly Retention Bonus of $4,500 per year. For Job shares, salary, bonuses/allowances are pro-rated in accordance with hours worked.

The Department of Health is responsible for health services and social programming in Nunavut. Staff at the Department of Health work to improve the health and well-being of Nunavummiut by addressing the differing needs of each community through culturally appropriate programs and services.
The Registered Nurse (RN), Emergency Department, is a member of a multi-disciplinary team. This position is responsible for assessing patient health status and responding to actual and potential health problems including emergent and critical situations on an ongoing basis.
RNs are responsible for quality nursing care within their scope of practice as outlined by the professional licensing body, CNNN. Using evidenced based practice, RNs, provide competent, independent nursing care while maintaining professional accountability. RNs coordinate by collaborating with other health care team members to ensure patients regain optimal functioning of well-being and quality of life as members of society within an appropriate time frame. This position directly impacts the delivery of acute care health needs to patients within by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all services provided to patients within the acute care setting.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job are usually obtained through a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Candidates must be eligible to register with CNNN. The incumbent must attend/successfully complete the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within six months of hire. These mandatory certifications are to be renewed as per course guidelines for renewal.
Candidates who have graduated from the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program or other Canadian accredited nursing programs and have passed their NCLEX and been accepted into the Graduate Nursing Residency Program will be considered. NAC graduates will have priority.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
