Summary of responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, the RN will be responsible for the assessment and management (planning and providing) of the Medical Day Care patients. This includes, but not limited to,
outpatients requiring blood or blood product transfusions, central line care and pre and post op care for endoscopy patients. Additionally the RN will work as part of the chemotherapy outpatient team providing assessment, care and teaching to the chemotherapy patient and family.

Requirements of the job

• Holds current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Minimum three (3) years general nursing experience plus one (1) year recent experience in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration
• DeSouza Certification (Provincial Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certificate) mandatory for this position.
• C.N.A. certification (CON(C)) and/or Hospice Palliative care (CHPCN(C)
• Theoretical knowledge of the care of patients with oncological diagnosis and related medical illness/disease, and ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting
• Commitment to personal continuing education activities, including self- evaluation
• Superior assessment skills and knowledge of interventions related to oncological symptom management and emergencies
• Demonstrates ability and application of knowledge related to Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD), including care and maintenance.
• Demonstrates leadership skills and abilities
• Knowledge of Quality Improvement
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Good attendance and work record
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
• Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
