Position Summary:

 

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager – Perioperative Care, the nurse collaborates with the inter-professional team to provide nursing practice that is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario.

 Day Surgery nursing care includes: preoperative preparation (knowledge of different surgeries and the relevant preparation), review of patient’s health assessment, medication reconciliation and identification of issues potentially impacting the patient’s surgical procedure. The candidate will provide post-operative care to day surgery patients with exemplary post-op teaching involving the patient and family.

 Key Qualifications:      

  • Candidate will be a graduate of a recognized College or School of Nursing 

  • Current certification or eligibility for Certification of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of acute post-operative surgical nursing care experience is required

  • Previous Day Surgery experience is preferred

  • Demonstrated consistency in approachability, clinical excellence, patience, respectful interactions and diplomacy

  • Developed assessment and reasoning skills for comprehensive nursing care

  • Able to work with the team to manage emergency situations

  • Ability to effectively prioritize patient and family needs in conjunction with the interprofessional care team

  • Proficient communication skills, both oral and written

  • Commitment to life-long learning and evidence of on-going professional development

  • Competence with Meditech and computer documentation an asset

  • Satisfactory attendance and performance required
