Job Description

Salary range: $63.75 - $73.33

 

This is a casual position to work 8 or 12 hour shifts including days, evening, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.

 

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, you will be responsible to develop and provide multiple assessment strategies within a holistic nursing framework for the Emergency Services patient population. The Nurse Practitioner position will have a specialized focus on advanced physical assessment for those patients presenting with higher acuity health concerns. In accordance with medical directives and in consultation and collaboration with physicians, you will initiate and interpret diagnostic laboratory and imaging tests and order and administer medications for CTAS III-V patients. Your role will also include engaging a multi-disciplinary team to anticipate, discuss and resolve issues relevant to patient care as well as coordinating the plan of care. You possess the ability to educate nurses, health care professionals and patients regarding clinical interventions and outcomes. You will monitor, evaluate and document outcomes of decisions and interventions. Critical thinking skills will guide your decision making in complicated and unpredictable situations. You will collaborate with the emergency care team in developing, implementing and evaluating best practice guidelines and standards of care. Additionally you will translate knowledge, skills and expertise in best practice patterns into clinical practice. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters of Nursing with a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate and current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • 3 – 5 years of current experience in Emergency Nursing is required.
  • Possess advanced knowledge and skill relating to the assessment, management and evaluation of treatment plans for the Emergency Services patient population.
  • Member of RNAO with additional liability coverage is required.  
  • Highly motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple demands with conflicting priorities.
  • Committed to theory and research/evidence-based outcomes, clinical research designs, measurement techniques and statistical methods, with a knowledge of/experience in change theory.
  • Superior leadership capabilities are required.
  • Demonstrated commitment and passion for nursing excellence is essential.
  • Regular attendance is required
