- Development of medical directives, collaborative practice guideline and certification to perform controlled medical act procedures must be developed, reviewed and revised according to corporate policy, in order to perform the role.
- Maintains and enhances expert clinical knowledge (ie. pathophysiology, treatments modalities, outcomes), competence and skills within their specialty area.
- Establish learning goals and objectives yearly and review individual practice through reflective practice and participation in the CNO Quality Assurance Program and corporate evaluation process.
- Participates in annual review of practice with physician partners.

The Regional Neuroscience and Medicine Program provides care for patients with Neuro/Spine/orthopedic disorders through the utilization of advanced monitoring and treatment procedures. The Neuroscience/Spine/Orthopedic patient population requires inpatient and outpatient clinical nursing expertise to support their continuum of care needs and monitor outcomes. Program development, research and education are significant requirements of the nursing role to support future development, scientific inquiry and evidence informed practice across this patient population's continuum of care.
The Nurse Practitioner in Orthopedics will be responsible for managing Orthopedic Patients post operatively so that they will be more fully supported during the entire care continuum.
Nurse Practitioners-(Adult) are advanced practice nurses whose principal role is to provide comprehensive, holistic, family-centred care to adult clients, in acute care and ambulatory settings, through the use of advanced skills, knowledge and education in health assessment, diagnoses and management, as well as health promotion and disease prevention.
The Nurse Practitioner-Adult has a Master’s degree in Nursing, has successfully completed a nurse practitioner program in the specialty of Adult Care and has obtained the NP specialty certificate through the approved registration exam.,
1. Health Assessment and Diagnosis– the NP Orthopedics will provide assessment and intervention to patients who are more vulnerable and complex in order to optimize them for surgery –
2. Health Care management and Therapeutic Interventions - the NP Orthopedics will create an therapeutic relationship with the patient and provide direction to patients on post-operative management .
3. Health Promotion and prevention – participates and implements strategies for health promotion, protection and promotion of injury illness and disease complication.
