About us:

PurposeMed was founded in 2019 with the mission of improving access to complex care for underserved communities. We’ve grown quickly in our first few years, and now our exceptional team serves thousands of patients each month across our multiple verticals.

PurposeMed consists of three complex care business units: Freddie, Frida, and Foria, and partners with Affirming Care Pharmacy. Freddie is focused on improving sexual health through education, prevention, and treatment with a focus on the LGBTQ2S+ community—we’re the #1 rated PrEP provider in North America, serving patients in both Canada and the USA! Frida is changing the lives of patients with easier access to adult ADHD diagnosis, and fast and affordable treatment. Foria Clinic provides trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse Canadians with gender-affirming healthcare. Affirming Care Pharmacy is a specialty pharmacy with locations in Calgary, Alberta, and Mississauga, Ontario. This partnership provides our patients with an end-to-end healthcare experience, from treatment, to prescription delivery, to continuous affirming care.

We’re proud to be ranked #2 on Deloitte’s 2024 list of Canada’s 50 fastest-growing tech companies and recognized as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures for two consecutive years. Driven by a strong mission, our team is passionate about making healthcare accessible to those who need it most—and we make sure to have fun along the way!

Independent contractor opportunity: 1-3+ shifts per week (variable)

Seeking someone with availability to work in person any day between Monday–Thursday from 10am–6pm with the ability to conduct additional virtual shifts on an as-needed basis.

Location: Hybrid role in Toronto, ON (in person at PWA Toronto & virtual work required)

The work we are doing in Toronto is on Indigenous land. This is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (aka. the Six Nations Confederacy), the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This land is also part of the Dish with One Spoon territory, a treaty between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (aka. The Six Nations Confederacy), the Anishinaabek and allied nations, to peaceably share and care for this land, its waters, and all of the biodiversity in the Great Lakes region.

Who we hope to find:

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and caring Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Freddie In-Person Care team. Our patients are our #1 priority–we’re committed to providing empathetic, stigma-free care that goes beyond traditional clinical experiences.

In this role you will provide comprehensive HIV treatment and prevention services both in-person (at our partner clinic) and virtually. As an NP at Freddie you will play a pivotal role in delivering client-centered care for those living with HIV, as well as those seeking preventative care through PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis), and DoxyPEP. This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a commitment to reducing health disparities within diverse populations.

In this role, you’ll make an impact by:

  • Leading comprehensive initial assessments (for those living with HIV, or seeking preventative care), including but not limited to, history taking, risk assessment and psychosocial evaluations
  • Providing comprehensive diagnostic services within preventative and HIV+ care, encompassing ordering of laboratory tests and diagnostics, phlebotomy and specimen collection, result interpretation, and clinical follow-up
  • Managing treatment plans, using your advanced clinical skills to guide individuals living with HIV toward optimal health
  • Delivering high-quality, evidence-based care in initiating and monitoring antiretroviral therapy
  • Initiating and managing clients on PrEP therapy, including medication education, adherence counseling, and follow-up care
  • Counselling and education on sexual health screening, treatment and prevention strategies such as DoxyPEP
  • Championing health education and empowerment, helping patients understand their treatment options, navigate stigma, and take control of their wellness

We need someone who has:

  • A Master's degree in Nursing and a Primary Health Care or Adult/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner diploma
  • An active Nurse Practitioner registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 1+ years of practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner within the last 5 years, or 2+ years of Registered Nurse experience in HIV care, sexual health, or gender-affirming care
  • Strong communication skills, empathetic care delivery, and a non-judgmental approach

It would also be great if you have:

  • Experience working with gender and sexually diverse communities
  • Experience providing HIV care
  • Experience providing virtual care
  • Experience working in the private sector, a start-up, or a technology company
  • Experience working in an independent or autonomous practice setting

Compensation:

  • $90 CAD/hour as an independent contractor
  • Please note that as an independent contractor, you would not be eligible for the benefits available to permanent positions and would be required to provide your own laptop
  • This role offers the opportunity to flexibly contribute your skills and expertise, making it ideal for those seeking a dynamic and adaptable work schedule

Do you think you could be our next Nurse Practitioner? We look forward to seeing your application!
