Job Description: The Nurse Practitioner RN (NP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority to support the full range of options for end of life care including medical assistance in dying. The RN (NP) practices within a framework of evidence-based end of life care. The Nurse Practitioner supports patients and their families in the request for patients to receive medical assistance in dying and coordinates a seamless patient journey. Promotes and supports the Saskatchewan Health Authority vision for patient centered care. The RN (NP) collaborates with interdisciplinary team members and liaises with health professionals and agencies throughout the organization (province) to facilitate high quality care for the patient and family seeking this service. The RN (NP) plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates both public and health professional awareness and educational activities related to medical assistance in dying. The position is primarily located in Regina and responds to needs in all health facilities and dwellings within neighbouring urban and rural areas.

Experience

  • 3 yrs experience in Palliative Care (combo of acute and community preferred)

Education

  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Some knowledge and practical application of central line access
  • Advance computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Access).
  • Proficient in peripheral access
