Job Description: The Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience specializing in pediatric hematology oncology. This nurse practitioner will work within the greater hematology oncology team to assess patients, coordinate care and support patients and families in relation to their care journey, including preventative care, diagnostics, procedures and treatments, medication and more. The NP works collaboratively to build care pathways for each individual child and their family, utilizing a network of resources across the SHAs Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program. They will provide expert clinical care within the interdisciplinary oncology team within both inpatient and outpatient settings.
They will integrate and apply knowledge of pathophysiology, disease progression, treatment modalities, treatment side effects and evaluation framework to guide care needed within the multidisciplinary team. This nurse practitioner will provide expert clinical care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary pediatric oncology team. They will work in a shared care environment with the Pediatric Hematologist Oncologists to support patient care with an in-depth knowledge of advanced health assessment and diagnosis. They will have responsibility for some therapeutic management with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures. They will help create and work a system of provincially approved standards to improve access to services across the province, creating a network of support, education and care across the care pathway.

Experience
- Five (5), full-time years’ experience as a Registered Nurse required
- Three (3) full-time years recent experience working in a pediatric area with children with medical complexity, pediatric oncology or palliative experience is required
Education
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) Designation
- Certified or eligible for certification with Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON)
- Level C, Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Registered or eligible for registration with College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nursing Certification – APHON, is an asset
Licenses
- Current CRNS registration as NNP required.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
