Job Description: The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse, under the direction of the Inpatient Mental Health Manager, exercises independence in the provision of individualized assessment and care to patients in the ER with mental health and/or substance misuse challenges. The Psychiatric Liaison Nurse will work closely with the emergency room physicians, on- call psychiatrists, Community Mental Health and Addiction Services and other Healthy Authority and community stakeholders, to develop and deliver high quality services for persons presenting to Emergency Services with mental health and addiction concerns. In addition, the incumbent provides patient and family education and support while the patient is in the emergency department and; acts as a role model and clinical resource re: management of psychiatric, intoxicated and aggressive patients.

Experience

  • Three years full-time experience in Acute Psychiatric or Community MH Nursing

Education

  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN)

Other Education and Training

  • Basic CPR, ASSIST preferred
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
