Job Description: The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) is accountable for promoting high quality care through assessing, planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating the total care needs of our patients/residents/clients (P/R/C). The RN/RPN is required to coordinate with all the departments within the facility, families and professionals associated with P/R/Cs care. The RN/RPN must promote effective communication in the facility through care given and reporting mechanisms. The RN/RPN is expected to participate in staff meetings and educational opportunities to maintain their own professional competence.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Other Education and Training

  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable
  • Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing is acceptable

Competencies

  • Basic - Interpersonal skills
  • Basic - Communication skills to provide/obtain verbal and/or written opinions/advice

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to competently use computers and software applications
  • Ability to make decisions, which must include coordination of staffing
  • Ability to communicate with clients from diverse social backgrounds
  • Ability to make decisions on patient care and coordination of equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
