The Director of Care – Administrative reports to the Executive Director and provides leadership to the resident care team in all aspects of care within established legislative and professional standards. Effectively manages human, material, and fiscal resources.
In collaboration with the resident care team develops resident focused programs, policies and procedures. Monitors the quality of care and services delivered to residents through effective quality improvement activities. Promotes a safe and secure environment for all residents.
Wage Rate: The starting annual salary is $110,000

Responsibilities:
- Provides direction to the nursing team in all aspects of resident care and takes on the role of “In Charge” in the absence of the Executive Director.
- Manages all aspects of human resources relating to the Nursing Department
- Maintains Legislative Compliance with all appropriate legislation; Ministry of Long-Term Care, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act., Labour Relations Act, etc.
- Demonstrate sound knowledge of the resident bill of rights and monitors to ensure rights of residents are always respected and promoted
- Develops policies and procedures consistent with resident care practices, College of Nurses of Ontario, Ministry of Long-Term Care, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Ontario Regulation 246/22 and other applicable legislation
- Responsible for nursing budget and monthly variance reporting, along with overseeing all ordering for supplies within the Home,
- Provides a cheerful and energetic environment for the nursing team that supports growth and development,
- Demonstrates within the team a relaxed manner and a skill in ‘going with the flow’ emphasizing people’s individual needs and not tasks and routines whilst ensuring work requirements are met,
- Ensures all residents receive care and services according to their needs,
- Monitors the quality of nursing services and administers long term strategic plans for nursing,
- Implements goals and objectives to achieve the corporate vision for resident care,
- Ensures risk management process is adhered to by reviewing employee and resident incident reports, monthly indicators, Public Health Inspections, Ministry of Labour inspections, Accreditation reports, etc.,
- Inspires others to be motivated and work with a passion, and empower employees,
- Ensures the nursing team works in a safe workplace environment through the implementation of safe work practices and service guidelines,
- Review and investigate complaints and participate in inspections; submit critical incidents to the Ministry of Long-Term Care and take the appropriate corrective actions as needed.
- Required to participate in an on-call rotation and respond, as required.
- Accountable to ensure all clinical programs are in place and evaluated as per legislate requirements (e.g., Falls Prevention, Skin Care and Wound Management, Continence Care and Bowel Management, Palliative Care and Pain Management, etc.) to meet the needs of residents
- Monitors nursing employees work performance, addresses non-compliance concerns following progressive discipline in accordance with Home policies and procedures; and union collective agreements.
- Ensures appropriate documentation and maintenance of records including resident health records, personnel records etc.,
- Delegates clinical and managerial responsibilities as well as provides direction and leadership,
- Maintains open communication at all levels,
- Assists with the development of succession plans and identify employees with growth potential for development,
- Providing leadership and direction to the nursing team to ensure quality and risk management activities are carried out in alignment with legislative requirements with a focus to continuously improve nursing and resident care services,
- Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory
Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, or
- Registered Nurse registered with a regulatory authority in a Canadian jurisdiction, other than Ontario, and holds in that jurisdiction the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario as of right exemption Bill 60
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience working as an RN in the long-term care sector
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting. A positive mindset, as well as a connection with our values.
- Or must have held a Director of Care position at a different LTCH without meeting the updated qualifications set out in the Regulation, on the condition that the person has had (3) years full-time experience in the position during the (5) years immediately before being hired at the different LTC home or the equivalent part-time experience in the position during the (7) years immediately before being hired at the different LTCH.
- Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices as they relate to long-term care legislation,
- Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing person-centred care in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures of the MLTC and the home,
- Knowledgeable of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and respects and promotes these rights,
- Effective communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively is essential,
- Effective customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to working with seniors are required,
- Demonstrated ability to meet professional clinical infection protocols,
- Ability to deal with responsive behaviours,
- Is inspirational and passionate about quality dementia care and capturing positive moments,
- Ability to embrace various skills from the team to maximize the potential to enhance the well being of all individuals,
- Basic computer skills are a must
- Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous improvement,

- Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
- As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements
- Two supervisory references required
