Job Description:

Position Overview:

Reporting to Manager of the Women and Children’s Program, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning implementation and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centred care environment. As part of our paediatric multidisciplinary team you will provide patient support in a family centred environment, which includes parent beds in single, family patient rooms, kitchen facilities, lounge, showers and playrooms. This position includes both independent work and team based models of care. Please note this position is required to work all shifts.

Requirements:
• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification based on the Ontario Heart and Stroke Standards
• Minimum of two years recent paediatric related experience
• Current PALS certificate
• A breastfeeding Certificate is required (or a commitment to complete within 3 months of employment
• Preferred certification in Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS)
• Current paediatric knowledge related to paediatric disease process and paediatric family-centred care (medical / surgical / mental health)
• Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based model
• Demonstrated physical ability to perform nursing and related duties
• Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
• Exposure to Lean principles, an understanding of methodologies and tools and a commitment to the use of these in support of providing the best healthcare experience possible to our patients
• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
