JOB REQUIREMENTS

A) QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Bachelor Nursing Program
  • Current BCLS certificate

Minimum Work Experience

  • Current registration
  • 2-3 years post-graduate experience and excellent clinical skills

Required Registration

· Membership with the local Nurses Association is encouraged.

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care utilizing the nursing process. The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes. As a member of a collaborative care team works with other disciplines to co-ordinate care to achieve patient/family outcomes.

The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.

The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the service/unit, coordination of patient care, staffing allocation and/or the use of other resources as required.

In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, the RN is also responsible for delegation to and supervision of non-professional and support staff.

The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually demonstrating effective general nursing competencies and specialist competencies if working in a specialty area. This is achieved through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, continuous quality activities, and annual competency assessment, general for area specific. The RN practices according to the Nursing Board’s Code of Ethics, Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses, Specialty standards as applicable, and the Policies and Procedures of the Hospital Board. The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the Nursing Board and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Minimum 2-3 years post-graduate RN experience
Current BCLS
Other certifications depending on unit
2 and 3 year contracts available based on circumstances
NO NCLEX REQUIRED
NO CGFNS REQUIRED
