The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Registered Nurse to support and coordinate the care for clients in the Forensic Early Intervention Service based in the Toronto South Detention Centre (TSDC). Working collaboratively with the Forensic Early Intervention Service (FEIS), TSDC you will be responsible for assisting with the assessment triage, and case management of clients with complex mental illnesses, and/or substance abuse issues who are involved in varying phases of the criminal justice system. As a member of an inter-professional team, you will liaise with internal and external services, the courts, community agencies and families to support the development, implementation and evaluation of plan of care. Having a strong understanding of risk assessment, and an appreciation for the development and implementation of safety protocols and procedures you will conduct clinical assessments and recommendations. Providing client-centered psychiatric and general nursing care, you will contribute to the security and safety of the inpatient unit, and practice in accordance with professional regulatory standards, CAMH policies and procedures, the CAMH Practice Model of Care, and the Canadian Standards of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Practice.
As an excellent communicator, you will be able to work with clients from diverse populations, contribute to program development, participate in clinical supervision, provide education support and supervision to students, and participate in the research activities of the program. You will be required to maintain data and records to report on service provision as required by the Office of the Solicitor General.
Your sound knowledge of crisis intervention, trauma-informed care and recovery, forensic psychiatry, risk assessments, complex mental illness will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is a 7.5 hour shift that may require travel between multiple sites. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric/mental health nursing experience with forensic patients and knowledge of risk assessment tools are assets. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
